Our Study Plan:
Kindergarten:
Children in kindergarten will learn how to recognise, write, order, and count up to the number 30. They will learn how to play both personal and team sports as well as the characteristics of sportsmanship and teamwork. They will also learn how to add and subtract numbers (add with a sum of 10 or less and subtract from 10 or less). Children will learn about safe and harmful environments in kindergarten. We'll do this in a way that's enjoyable and interesting.
Year 1:
In Year 1 maths Children will learn to count forwards and backwards up to 100. They will know their addition and subtraction facts to 20. They will start to learn about times tables through the use of simple multiplication and division problems, for which they will be given objects to help them work out what is being asked. In Year 1 english, your child will learn the spelling, grammar and punctuation rules they need to write clearly. They will start to write their own simple stories and non-fiction texts and learn how to hold a pencil. They will be introduced to a wide range of texts that will develop their vocabulary.
Year 2:
Your child will have a strong grasp of suffixes and prefixes, using them to decipher the meaning of words they don't know. Other reading skills that are worked in second grade include outcome prediction, self-correction, and using a dictionary. There will be a more detailed focus on handwriting, with children encouraged to form their letters correctly, learn which letters are to be joined and make letters a consistent size. Children will learn to write for a range of purposes including stories, poetry and real events. children will recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20 fluently, and derive and use related facts up to 100. Add and subtract numbers using concrete objects, pictorial representations, and mentally, including: a two-digit number and ones, a two-digit number and tens, two two-digit numbers. they will also start with problem solving and we will also prepare the students for Naplan which will be coming up next year.
Year 3:
In Year 3, the curricula will build on early stages of literacy development. Students begin to translate and interpret familiar and unfamiliar texts, to analyse how a language works and to understand the dynamic relationship that exists between communication, culture and context.students will: Be introduced to fractions and decimals. Increase the ways they use models, pictures and symbols to represent and communicate mathematical ideas. Collect and investigate data from simple problems with the development of reasoning skills. They will be practicing for Naplan in the first term, we will also build an understanding of how maths in used in the real world by working on their problem solving skills.
Year 4:
In Year 4, we will nurture and encourage independent thinking, learning, and decision making in your child. Your child will get to know more complex punctuation like inverted commas and apostrophes, will learn key spellings, and will continue to develop their reading and writing. The main focus of Year 4 science is to develop children's scientific understanding of the world around them. That involves testing out their ideas, exploring relationships between living things and their environments, classifying and grouping things, and observing changes over time. Students' facility with numerical operations and patterning and factions increases. Not only are they expected to consolidate their knowledge of times tables, they are starting to apply their multiplication skills to increasingly complex problems.
Year 5:
In Year 5, students develop an ability to take positive actions for their wellbeing; they relate to others and communicate well with others; they ask challenging questions and seek answers; they make informed decisions and act responsibly. In year 5 science children will learn about living things and their habitats, including lifecycles of a mammal, amphibian, insect and bird. Animals including humans, focusing on changes from birth to old age. Properties and changes of materials, including dissolving, separating and reversible changes. In Year 5, your child will learn to choose the right vocabulary and grammar for their writing. write a story with interesting vocabulary and dialogue. write non-fiction with features such as headings, captions, bullet points, subheadings and diagrams. use a consistent tense throughout their piece.
Year 6:
In year 6 the deep mathematical understanding, fluency, problem-solving and reasoning are an integral part of mathematics content across the three content strands: number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability. In Year 6, we will be developing a fluent writing style. Your child will to be able to communicate their ideas clearly and in an organised way. Your child's sentences will be well structured, paragraphs are organised, and they select specific word choices to convey a particular meaning. Your child will be able to analyse a text without any difficulty.
